LTBK Worldwide Initiative - Belize Central America
Let Them Be Kids Worldwide Initiative - Belize
The Let Them Be Kids Initiative is a first of its kind. This worldwide program helps communities build capacity and community involvement amongst citizens, while also building playgrounds in areas of need and laying a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow for all.
Belize LTBK Projects

As a team of students pulled up to the site to build the playground, there was a level of excitement, not just among the team, but in the community as well. As with any project, this had its difficulty, but with ingenuity the leaders from Canada, as well as some community folk, put their heads together and found ways to work through these situations. The playground started building momentum and quickly the enthusiasm of it spread in the town of Orange Walk, Belize, as this was the largest and most challenging playground in the entire country. Opening day was a success. The Deputy Prime Minister came and talked to the citizens of Orange Walk, and the team from Calgary also participated in this event. As the Deputy Prime Minister cut the ribbon, it was all we could do to hold back the hundreds of children that had lined up to play on this structure.

I lived in Belize and had the distinct privilege of hosting this team in. Even with the playground being the success that it was, I still feel the greatest impact this team had on the young people in this community was when they would go to the local basketball courts and have Canada vs. Belize tournaments with the locals. Those evenings will be remembered by the locals and the participants for a long time.
