LTBK Project– Playground Build: R.M. Moore Public School, Sault Ste. Marie, ON

Come Be A Part of the
R.M. Moore School Extreme Makeover–
Bridging East and West

THE BACKGROUND

RM Moore School
Saturday, May 24th, 2008
8am- 4pm
Corner of Base Line and Carpin Beach Road

For several years, the children of R.M. Moore have been without playground equipment – almost all of which was removed due to safety concerns. In addition, R.M. Moore School is located in a rural community with no safe play areas in the surrounding area. The new playground will serve not only the students of R.M. Moore School, but also the school’s onsite Day Care and the surrounding community.

To make this project even more exciting, we are teaming up with Eastview Public School, also here in Sault Ste. Marie….doing a double build on the very same day at the very same time! In essence we will be Bridging East and West - as our children, parents, and staff, learn and work together to make this project happen.

For more information on Eastview, visit their site (link provided here).

OBJECTIVES

The R.M. Moore School PTA has identified the necessity of an outdoor environment that can be enjoyed by all students and residents. The LTBK committee has endorsed the following revisions to the playground and surrounding school yard.

In one day, the following will transform RM Moore in an extreme way:

  • Building a playground structure, components of which were voted on by RM Moore students
  • Planting of shade trees, adding large rocks, and installing seating in the playground area
  • Enhancing the existing Peace Garden with planting, pruning, and repairing of existing structures
  • Installing a brick walkway (“in memory of”) within the Peace Garden
  • Painting and organizing of the existing storage facility (outdoor shed)
  • Refurbishing of the Baseball diamond
  • Painting of templates within the school yard (basket ball court, hopscotch, etc.)
  • Reorganization of our library

We look forward to seeing community spirit like never before!
